Rock Stars Movie Review

Rock Stars is another animated children's film about a town of earthworms who feel low, as they are on the bottom of the food change.

The main character, Barry, is always nagged on by his mother, for him to work with a company all the worms go to when they finish school, but Barry wants better then that. His world changes, when he comes across his fathers old disco record. Barry finds himself enjoying the beat of the music and wanting to be a part of it. He decides to make a band, all while hiding it from his mother. He gathers a pack of friends-and the girl he likes, to form his band...though they have no arms and no rhythm, they can boogie on down and bring the town back up.

I found this movie to be great! It was humorous and entertainable. My son loved it as well. There was a couple parts that shouldn't have been in it, being a kid movie...like the worm says "What the hell is going on??" I would rather their be no cussing in this film, but I believe that was the only time. And then the kissing scene between the mother and father worm's, Barry's parents, was pretty intimate for kids to see lol. They could have left that out. But other then those two issues, I found the movie to be enjoyable!

Rock Stars runs about 78 minutes and is rated PG. it includes a trailer and a slide show.

You can find it at most Red Box locations, Target, Walmart, and Amazon.com

Super Yummy Almond Joy Wannabe's

I came across this mouth watering recipe at Vanilla Sugar Blog for her "coconut truffles" and knew I had to make them. I LOVE the Almond Joy candy bars, and these sounded so similar so I gave it a shot!

Mix 3.5 ounces of coconut flakes with 4. ounces of sweetened condensed milk and a pinch of salt.

While mixing, I had my almonds roasting.

  And chocolate melting...

Once coconut mixture was all mixed together, I put mix in the freezer to help with the stickiness. Roll into the shape you want-and I put the almond or two on top, and dipped into the melted chocolate!!

I had a hard time keeping the balls together when they were dipped which Is why, towards the end..I just ended up dumping all the melted chocolate and almonds into my coconut mixture and rolling them into balls this way. Not as pretty but sooo very tasty!

All The Difference - Book Review

All the Difference written by Kaira Rouda is described to be a chick lit, murder mystery,
with three main characters: Ellen, Laura and Angie.

Ellen is a housewife, who leaves her home life behind, to be in the country with her husband, who has endless affairs with her.

Laura is a successful business women who wants nothing but moving up in her career and will do almost anything to make that happen.

And Angie is on the prow for her special man who wears shiny shoes and will scoop her off her feet with tons of money and luxuries.

Between the three, one takes the path of murder.

To be honest, I was highly disappointed with this book :( Which makes me sad because I absolutely loved Kaira's book Here, Home, Hope, I had high hopes for this one. I say it dissapointed me because I was expecting it to be more mysterious and on the edge. But instead, I feel like I was watching a soap opera, with all the drama and cheating. There were some sex scenes in the book, which I wasn't expecting, but was fine...I just didn't like the constant cheating that went on between marriages. It makes me so sad that, that is what sells now days. People cheating on the person they promised to love and cherish for the rest of their lives. I do not understand what makes people enjoy hearing about marriages failing and love falling apart. If you've read Here, Home, Hope, there's drama in that book too...which I tolerated because aside from that, the book was awesome! But this one, All the Difference, it was just too much for me. Several times, I wanted to put the book down and forget about it...But I just kept hoping it would get better. The characters were alive and I liked how it all pieced together in the end...but in whole, it will not be a book I recommend.

Sweet Potato Bible Verse

So we purchased a bag of frozen sweet potato fries from Dollar Tree and I was really shocked to find a Bible verse on the back of the bag!! So awesome!

TJ Farms Select: Sweet Potato Crinkles fries (haven't tried them yet to know if they're good) But the verse on the back says:

"Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall." Psalm 55:22

What a great verse for me to read, in these times I've been facing of a lot of stress and worry. A nice little reminder that God has my back and things will be fine, if I just give my worry to Him :)

Organix Shampoo Savings

About a week or two ago, Walgreens was having a really great sale on Organix Shampoo and conditioner! My hair lives for this stuff. It can't stand anything other then Organix, because it begins falling out if I use anything other then it!! So I was pleased to see the "buy one get one free" sale going on. I took advantage of it and got myself 4 bottles of the shampoo...and a box of Puffs tissues which were also on sale, for .99 , for the Summer cold we all seemed to catch :) All this came out to $14.97 ~Wish I could say I spent less because it doesn't seem like a whole lot for the price and amount of things I purchased, but a bottle of Organix is $6.99 alone. Pretty spendy compared to the .99 White Rain I used as a teenager lol. But once I got older, seems my hormones changed and hair loss set in...Until I found the wonderful Organix Coconut milk shampoo!! Just love it.  So I saved a total of $14.48, pretty much a 50% savings! :) I'm pleased with that.

Free Pizza!!!

We got to use 15 points we had in line for Papa John's pizza, (instead of the original 25 points needed) so we got a FREE Pizza!!! All we had to pay was the shipping fee which was only $3.30 :)

Building Family Ties - Book Review

Building Family Ties With Faith, Love & Laughter
a book written by Dave Stone-a pastor, husband and father of three.

In all honesty, I had a hard time getting in to this book. I found that it bored me some, so I ended up re-reading it for a second time, to find a better interest in it. This book, as the title says, is all about how to build strong ties with your family and raise them up to what they are called to be. There are many scriptural references and great tips on guiding your family, as well as some fun stories involved. One of my favorite quotes from the book, which was quoted by someone else is: "If you plant apple seeds, it will be an apple tree that emerges from the soil-not an orange tree. Trust that what you planted will develop."  This speaks to me, as I have my own issues in trusting, so this quote serves as a great reminder to put your faith into your actions.

Another piece of the book that stuck with me, is the end. Saying "If you want to have a home that's marked by peace and joy and family togetherness, you have to take to heart the expectation of being a positive and purposeful parent. You have to start now." I really like this because I want my home, my family, to always be joyful and love being together. It's my life long strive to have the happy family and to keep it that way. My son is only five right now, but I know time flies-as I have been experiencing this already! {he will be a kindergartener next month!}And as I look ahead and realize, 16 days from now, I will be dropping him off at his first day of school, his first real experience away from me (other then being with his grandma very rarely) it will be difficult to let go, but as Dave writes "If you think it will be difficult for you to release your children, can I let you in on a secret? It's a lot easier when you put into practice the lessons of this book." I know he is talking about the far future, when children move out, but I do know, that what I've {and my husband} sown into my son, these past 5 years,{As well as what we continue sowing!} he will be taking it with him into school, to his first day of kindergarten,
and for the rest of his life.

If you're looking for more information on how to build a better foundation with your family,
be sure to pick up this book!

A Bond of Blessing E-Book Review

A Bond of Blessing: Insights From The Book Of Ruth by Jaime Farkas,
is a book written for Mother-in-laws and Daughter-in-laws.

So many women find themselves fighting with their mother-in-laws, feeling like they are trying to rule everything and are being given more advice then ever needed. And some mother-in-laws feel their daughter-in-laws need that motherly person hounding over them making sure they're doing what they think they should be doing. Either direction it goes, one or both get very tiresome of each other.

In a Bond of Blessing, Farkas talks about the story of Ruth and Naomi, and their relationship as in-laws. Naomi didn't want her son marrying Ruth and Ruth didn't like Naomi, but after some time, they found themselves loyal to each other and accepting each other as they should.

Now days, the relationship between a daughter and her mother-in-law is so far separated; and society portrays a terrible view how the relationship should be. You know, where the mother-in-law is annoying and constantly wants to tell you how to live your life. Or where the daughter-in-law despises her mother-in-law and constantly bad talks her...It doesn't have to be this way! You're relationship can be exactly what God made it to be.  A great read for mothers and daughters.

Me as a daughter (and a mother) I found this book to have some helpful points. Unfortunately I have never officially "met" my mother-in-law, as we're states away, so our relationship has been through phone and internet, but I have been blessed with a mother-in-law who knows her "boundaries" haha. That sounded bad. What I mean though, is she is respectful and tells me what she thinks I need to know, but doesn't over do it. And me as a mother, I know someday my 5 year old son will be 35, and probably married by then..so I will then become the mother-in-law of a daughter! This book will be helpful in those times. But I don't want to rush it ;)

You can find A Bond of Blessing on Amazon in Kindle version for just $3.99 or free if you're part of Amazon Prime. You can also view a smidgeon of the book there so check it out!
You just may find it helpful :)

My Friend Bernard Movie Review

My Friend Bernard is an animated children's film with a narrator for the movie. If you've seen Pocoyo, it's similar to that style.

It's about a boy named Sam who is scared of everything. In the movie, it seems that Sam is just a baby but at the same time, he's older, so I'm not really sure how old he is lol. But a man dressed as Santa, ends up giving Sam a magic pendant that allows him to travel around in a large cup, with a dog as his pilot. He ends up in a snowy world, where he meets two penguins (the female is named Eva, just like my kitten! haha) and Bernard, the big polar bear. Sam ends up facing a lot of obstacles and scary things, helping him overcome his fear and face all kinds of things he never thought he could!

I found this movie to be very cute. It was fun to watch it with my son and eat our popcorn and M&M's together :) It had a lot of humor which filled my son with laughter! It's a silly children's movie all together but a great one at that! I like that it helps in getting over fears and teaching to face the scaries :)

*Something I wanted to add in, that I completely forgot about, was my favorite part in this movie! It was in the beginning and Bernard, the polar bear, was trying to catch fish for dinner. His way of doing so, was cutting a hole in the ice and farting into the water! Haha, the foul smell of the farts made the fish come up. I know that's a bit crude humor for a kids movie but it was pretty hilarious.

My Friend Bernard is about 70 minutes long and has not yet been rated. It features a trailer and slide show.

You can find it  at most Red Box locations, Target, Walmart, and Amazon.com

Carmex Ultra Smooth Lip Balm

I'm excited to share with you, another review and GIVEAWAY from the Carmex blog squad!

As a member of the blog squad, I was given a Carmex tote bag and six Carmex lip balm sticks.

The tote bag is big and roomy, great for the beach! It is a bright yellow color with a bold CARMEX label across the front and yellow stripes at the top. The handles are a rope like material and it has a smaller pouch purse inside, great for holding your new lip balms as well :)

The six flavors of Carmex lip Balm I received are:

  • The original flavor
  • Cherry
  • Strawberry
  • Vanilla
  • Lime Twist
  • And the NEW Pomegranate!

In my previous reviews for Carmex, I have tried out the vanilla and lime twist flavors, So I was excited to try out the 3 new fruity kinds :) The strawberry flavor reminded me so much of my childhood, when I would take my cherry lip balm and put it on my Barbies lips hehe. You would think the cherry flavor would do that, but I actually didn't care for the cherry as much. The pomegranate was by far my favorite. A nice new flavor that you don't see very often in other lip balms. I like that these sticks are made with a water resistant SPF 15 sunscreen to keep your lips protected and moisturize while doing so.

Want to win your very own Carmex kit like the one I received above??? One of my readers will have the chance to win! Just enter by following the Rafflecopter giveaway below, and leave me a message telling me which stick of lip balm flavor your most interested in! Pinterest Inspiration On Beauty Treatments

I was browsing around on Pinterest and found a ton of posts for DIY beauty treatments. Things like... sugar scrubs for your hands, homemade essential oils, and a cough suppressant. I wanted to give these a shot and here's what I came up with.

***

For the cough suppressant, they said to mix honey and cinnamon and take about 2TBS spoons of this 2 times a day and your cold should leave or lessen, within 3 days. I wanted to do this religiously, as I had a bad cold, but I just didn't end up taking it as said so I'm not sure if it really works! lol...it did taste good though and left my mouth feeling great-very similar to the taste of Big Red Cinnamon Gum. I use to chew that gum like it was going out of style, so I loved the taste!

Next, I made a lemon essential oil. To do this, You grate a lemon for the zest and put it into a small container (I filled mine just over half way of the zest) and add in cold compressed olive oil. You screw the lid on, shake it up, and leave it to rest.

Make sure to come back and shake it every now and then to allow it to all mix together well. I found this to be just ok. It didn't turn out how I was hoping, as the scent isn't very strong, but it's still fun to experiment.

I made a lemon sugar scrub to soften the hands after dish washing. I used some more lemon zest, added sugar to it, and some olive oil. Mixed it well until it all clumped together how I wanted, and I just store it on my microwave for when I need it. It makes the hands soft and smells good.

Rustic Red Goodwill Revamps

Found some great things to revamp, purchased at Goodwill. They were half price so I paid less then $3 for three things! :)

The Before: A cork reminder board, a picture frame, and a chicken napkin holder!

The After:  As you can see, I've got a red theme goin on haha. I liked the country rustic feel to it.
And this isn't a GREAT picture of the frame (I had painted one from an earlier time too so got this one to match..) But you can kinda get the feel for it. The star garland was what lil man made for the 4th of July :)

Yogurt Flat Cake+Recipe

Yogurt Flat Cake was something I just whipped up together on my own, tossing ingredients here and there, seeing what it came of. Here's a jist of what I added in:

Milk (about 2 TBS-ish)
Flour (approx 2 c)
Baking Powder (about 1tsp)
Baking Soda (about 1tsp)
Sugar (approx 2 c)
Vanilla (some drizzles)
1 Egg
a dash of salt
Drizzle of Lime Juice
3/4 Container of Strawberry Yogurt (you can use a different flavor for different tastes)

I mixed all of it together so it was a liquidy texture-similar to cake batter.
I poured into a greased glass casserole dish and baked in the oven at 375 degrees til done.

Came out tasting delicious!
